BERNIE MARTINEZ, 64, a resident of Chimayo, was welcomed home by her heavenly Father on Sunday, February 27, 2011. She was the pride and joy of her family and had a deep faith in our Lord, which was evident in the way she lived her life. Bernie touched the heart of everyone she met and became an instant friend to all. She enjoyed cooking, caring for others and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed admiring the splendor of the outdoors, especially the beautiful flowers her husband planted in their yard. Bernie was preceded in death by her parents, Sebedeo and Amelia Rodriguez; father and mother-in-law, Esquipula Y. and Dulcinia C. Martinez; brothers, Rogelio, Rudolfo and Nick Rodriguez and sisters-in-law, Maxine and Bonnie Rodriguez. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Robert C. Martinez; children, Roberta Martinez, Rolynn Martinez and companion Donnie Parrett, Ronald Martinez and wife Alice, Elisha-Rae Vigil, who she considered a daughter; special nephew, Walter Martinez; grandsons, Justin and Matt Martinez, Jesse Gasca, and Robert and Anthony Martinez all of Chimayo; brothers, Ferdinando and Joe Rodriguez of Peñasco; sisters, Sylvia Soliz and husband Manuel of Texas, Beatrice Fresquez and husband Sam of Utah, Lorraine Martinez of Arroyo Seco, Jeanette Vigil and husband Julian of Ojo Sarco and Pauline Rodriguez of Los Lunas; sisters-in-law, Gladys Rodriguez, Florida Miera, Lupita Rodriguez, Esther Martinez and husband Phil, Della Thompson and husband O’Dell, Martha Trujillo and husband Orlando and Angelina Martinez all of Chimayo; brothers-in-law, David Martinez and wife Gloria of Chimayo, Benny Martinez of La Puebla, Joe Martinez and wife Patty, Johnny Martinez and wife Geraldine, Sammy Martinez and wife Naomi all of Chimayo, Eddie Martinez and wife Thea of Los Ojos as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and special friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Victory Faith Church in Española with a devotional service to begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Victory Faith Church in Española. Burial to follow at the Assembly of God Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, Walter Martinez, Aaron Martinez and her five grandsons, Justin and Matt Martinez, Jesse Gasca and Robert and Anthony Martinez. The family of Bernie Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
