Bernardita V. "Bernie" Age -85 Mascarenas Rivera

Bernardita V. “Bernie” Mascarenas Rivera, was born on August 12, 1927, El Llano Largo NM and passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 Dixon, NM. Our dearest mother, sister, grand-mother, aunt, friend and caretaker, left this worldly place from her home in Dixon, New Mexico. Bernie was preceded in death by her husband, Porfirio Estrada Rivera; son, Alfred Rivera; grandchildren: Jennifer & Benjamin Rivera and Brian Martinez; beloved grandmother, Maria Dominguez Roybal; parents, Octaviano & Bernardita Roybal Mascarenas (Atencio),; and brother, Octaviano Mascarenas. Bernie is survived by her daughter, Dolores Rivera and partner Noel sanchez; grandsons: Gabriel Rivera; great-grand-daughter, Stephanie, Juan and Jesse Lopez and partner Savannah Quintana and great-granddaughter Alyssa; Son, Robert Martinez and partner Sheree Taylor, grandsons Abraham, Caleb and Ezekiel Martinez; granddaughter Maya Holgate-Cheek; Son, Richard Martinez and wife Kathy, grandsons Geoffrey and Daniel Martinez, great-grandson Daniel. Grandchildren of her heart are Jack “Ponch” Mckinley and great-granddaughter Monique Lopez. We were a multi-blended family and included Maria Dolores Mapili, Kathy Rivera Villalobos, Margaret Rivera Guillentine, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving Brothers and family include Ernesto, Tomas and Andres Atencio; sister-in laws Anna, Betty, Consuelo, and Joann; numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie provided a caring hand not only for her family but for many individuals in the communities of El Norte. Bernie will be remembered for her wonderful pots of beans fresh tortillas and loaves of banana bread, along with her irascible humor and determination. Bernie’s commitment to her family, faith and community involvement will be long remembered. We love you, Mom. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Embudo Presbyterian Church in Dixon. Interment will take place at a later date with her Beloved Porfirio at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
