Bernardita R. Fernandez – Age 87 a resident of Chimayo was born in Truchas, New Mexico to Pablita E. Romero and Jacinto Romero. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Melcor, Avenicio and Gilbert Fernandez; her brothers: Uvaldo, Frank, Marcelo, Audelio and Arsenio Romero. Bernardita worked as a housekeeper in Los Alamos for 44 years of her life, she was a loving mom and grandmother, known for being a good cook and enjoyed the time with her family. She was also known for her remedios by the community. She believed in God and was deeply devoted to the power of prayer. She was a member of the Coro de Santa Teresita at Holy Family Church. She is survived by her children, Merenciano Fernandez of Chimayo, Geneva Fernandez of Los Alamos, Stella Vigil and husband Felix of Chimayo, Maxine Cordova and husband Danny of Chimayo; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Esnedina Trujillo; sisters-in-law: Rose Romero and Theresa Romero; daughters-in-law: Oralia and Anita Fernandez. Bernardita is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews especially, Mary Alice Molina, Rudy, Vicente and Lupe Romero and Loretta Mendez who were very special to her and many other relatives. Public visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial will follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Rudy and Vicente Romero, Phil Maestas, Rico Martinez, Glen and Marty Cordova.
