Berlinda P. Martinez, Age 71, a resident of Espanola passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Berlinda enjoyed traveling with her husband and family to Las Vegas, Nevada; Pagosa Springs and to Durango. She also liked crocheting and going to the casino. She was preceded in death by one son, Vernon J. Martinez; parents Juan and Lugarda Miera; brothers: Steve and Prescilano Miera; sister, Annabelle Miera; parents-in-law, Lucas and Margarita Martinez; brother-in-law, Ruben Martinez. Berlinda is survived by her husband of 53 years Joe G. Martinez; children: David Martinez, Debbie Dixon and husband Martin, Myra Vigil and husband Matthew, Michael Martinez and companion Evelyn; granddaughters she raised: Ashley Padilla and husband Demetrios, Alicia Gasca and husband David; nieces she raised: April Miera and companion Kelly Trujillo, Joyce Fresquez, Amanda Pacheco and husband Armando; sisters: Lourdes Apodaca and husband Tom, JoAnn Miera, Pablita Esquibel and husband Horace; brothers and sisters-in-law: Arturo Martinez and wife Dolores, Eufelia Martinez, Julia Berry and husband Louis and Cruzita Martinez; 3 grandchildren: Amber Vigil, David Martinez Jr. and wife Jennie and Heather Martinez; 10 great-grandchildren: Jade, Estrella, Valerie and Demetrios Jr., Jason, Lorenzo, Marcos, Jeremiah, Casandra and Brooke. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 12 noon at the Sacred of Jesus Catholic Church in Espanola. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Cemetery with following serving as pallbearers: David Martinez Jr., David Gasca, Jason Gasca, Kelly Trujillo, Horace Esquibel, Steve Trujillo, Louis Berry and Michael Gallegos; honorary pallbearers: Demetrios Padilla Sr., Martin Dixon, Matthew Vigil, Jade Rivas, Estrella Padilla, Valerie Padilla, Lorenzo Gasca, Marcos Gasca, Jeremiah Gasca, Amber Vigil, Heather Martinez, Casandra Martinez, Brooke Martinez and Demetrios Padilla Jr. The family of Berlinda Martinez have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
