Benito Age - 90 - Medanales Roybal

Benito Roybal, 90, a resident of Medanales and currently residing at Sombrillo Nursing Home in Los Alamos passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Benito was born and raised in Medanales, his parents were Abedon Sr. and Tonita Roybal. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melaquias Roybal Jr., whom was his best buddy and would never leave him alone, he was always at his side; he was also preceded in death by his sister, Tonita Roybal. Benito lost his mother at a very young age, but did the best he could to survive. He was a Catholic and believed Jesus was his Savior. He was a humble person, loving brother, great uncle, and respected his elders. Benito worked as a sheepherder and as a firefighter. He was a very hard working person, his neighbors and friends from Medanales would ask him to assist with all the farm work and he would never turn anyone down. His best memories were when his job would take him out-of-state to fight fires. He loved his dogs and took excellent care of his sheep and farm animals. Benito is survived by his nephew who was like a son, Darrell Roybal and his wife Christine of Velarde; brothers: Joseph “Tito” Roybal and his wife Dolores J. of La Villita, Valentine H. Roybal and companion Dolores Martinez of Grants, Pablo Roybal and his wife Dolores of Española, Richard Roybal of Rio Rancho, Leroy Martinez and Manuel Roybal; sister, Annabelle Martinez of La Villita; uncle/aunt, Ross and Bernie Roybal; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at San Antonio Catholic Church in Medanales with burial to follow at San Antonio Cemetery in Medanales with the following serving as pallbearers: Darrell, Lorenzo, Carlos, Pablo and Richard Roybal, David Martinez, Daniel Roybal and Val Roybal; honorary pallbearers: Magdalena Roybal, Ed Romero, residents and nursing staff at Sombrillo Nursing Home.
