BEATRICE R. TORRES, 81, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Torres; children, John John Torres and Kenneth Dean Archuleta; parents, John and Emily Archuleta; in-laws, Carmelito and Manuelita Torres; brothers, Benjamin, Steve, Lawrence, Joe Louis, Johnny and Tommy Archuleta; sisters, Mary Blancaflor, Margaret Johnson and Molly Irwin and granddaughter, Wanda Archuleta. Beatrice who was always called, Aunt Bea, demanded a lot of respect and was always willing to help others. She was a board member of Arts and Crafts Corporation as well as a seamstress and also made pottery and corn necklaces. Beatrice was a great cook and enjoyed going to the casino. She danced her native tradition dances and loved her grandchildren. Mrs. Torres is survived by her children, James “Dots” Archuleta of Española, Deborah “Queenie” Torres of Ohkay Owingeh and Catherine Vigil and husband Kelly Tulee of Tesuque; brother, Henry Archuleta of Ohkay Owingeh; sister, Isabel Vigil and husband Herman of Tesuque; niece Valerie Chavez and husband Louie of Santa Fe; children, Kevin Naranjo and wife Tricia, Chris Archuleta and wife Lisa, Josh Archuleta, Beatrice Archuleta, Vitalia Archuleta, and Brandon Archuleta; great-grandchildren, Kitty Tulee, Natasha, Dylon, Eli, Christopher, Sean, Isaiah and Jordan and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the Ohkay Owingeh Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Larris Silver Rose, Jon Garcia, Brandon Archuleta, Elmer Torres, Elvis Torres, Michael Tafoya and Roy Abeyta.
