Avenicio "Magellan" - age 82 - Sant Maestas

Avenicio “Magellan” Maestas, 82, a resident of Santo Niño, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelina Maestas; sons, Joseph, Lawrence and Leroy Maestas, daughter, Isabel Jaramillo; parents, Bonifacio and Rebecca Maestas; grandchildren, Michelle Herrera, and Ernest Jaramillo; brother, Mike Maestas; sister, Carmen Sanchez; sisters-in-law, Helga Maestas and Lorraine Maestas, brothers-in-law, Ramon Mares and Ruben Pacheco and Eddie Sanchez. Avenicio was friendly and well known in the Santa Cruz area. He was known to every one as “Magellan”. Avenicio retired from the Española Public Schools where he worked in maintenance. He loved to fish and enjoy wood working. He was very involved in the Santa Cruz de la Cañada Catholic Church and its restoration. He was well liked by all, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Avenicio is survived by his daughter, Becky and companion Harold Salazar; step-children, Donald Herrera and wife Cordy, Joe Herrera and his late wife Lydia, Gilbert Herrera and wife Theresa, Julian Herrera and wife Theresa, Martha Serrano and husband George, and Celia Martinez and companion Ramon; grandchildren, Melanie, Desire, Eric, Aaron, Deliliah, Jenelle, Nicholas, Brandon, Brandee, and numerous step-grandchildren; brother, Phil Maestas, sisters, Ramona Pacheco, Lydia Mares and Orlinda Garcia and husband Orlando; God children, Steve Jaramillo, Dora Quintana and Aaron Aguilar, numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada.
