Aurora - Age 87 - Chimayo - Martinez

AURORA MARTINEZ, 87, a resident of Chimayo, was born January 11, 1926 in Jerome, AZ to Octaviana and Manuel Rodriguez. She passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 following a lengthy illness of Alzheimer’s. After the death of her husband, Rubel Martinez in March 2004, Aurora lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Harold Ortega in Albuquerque then was taken to Canyon Transitional Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rubel Martinez; sons, James and Kenneth Martinez; mother, Octaviana Rodriguez; brothers, Ysidro Rodriguez, Angel Rodriguez, Maximino Enriquez, Jesus Rodriguez, Ascension Enriquez and Luis Enriquez; sister, Pauline Marrujo; in-laws, Silvanio Martinez, Eliseo Martinez, Fedelina Martinez and Ricardo Martinez and nephews, nieces and many more friends and family. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her children, Donald Martinez of Chimayo and partner Mary of Española, Linda and Harold Ortega of Albuquerque, Edmund Martinez of Chimayo and partner Angie of Española, Casey and Nanette Martinez of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Joyce and husband Victor, Reneé and husband Kevin, Bryan and wife Monica, Destiny, Kenny Ray, Jason, Aujoli, Catalena, Desean, James, Kianna and Sierra; 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers, Edward Saavedra of Phoenix AZ; sister, Modesta Olivera of Sachuarita AZ; sisters-in-law, Amparo Rodriguez of CA, Esperanza Rodriguez of CA, Armida Enriquez of CA, Rosanna Martinez of Santa Fe and Celerina Espinosa and husband Guillermo of Chimayo and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Potrero Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, Victor Martinez, Jason Martinez, James Martinez, Bryan Ortega, Kevin Neff and Alan Ortega. Special thanks to the staff at Canyon Transitional for all the love and care they provided. The family of Aurora Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
