ASENCIONITA LOPEZ, 90, a lifelong resident of Truchas, passed away peacefully at home surround by her loving family on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Heremejildo and Epimenia Ortiz; husband of 64 years, Gregorio Lopez; son-in-law, Nick Leyba; grandson, David Lopez; great-grandson, Mario Martinez; brother-in-law, Aurelio Lopez; mother-in-law, Ninfa Lopez. Asencionita loved to cook, bake and was a gifted quilt maker and worked alongside her husband on the farm, while raising seven children. She was a spiritual woman and was very involved with the church women’s group. She faithfully attended church every Sunday, a tradition that is carried on by her children. She is survived by her children, Jimmy and Cruzita Lopez, Mary Leyba and companion Humberto Flores, Helen and Isaac Lovato, Diana and Dennis Quintana, Orlando and Pricilla Lopez, Ray and Maria Zita Lopez and Jennie Lopez; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren as well as her siblings, Sally Sanchez of Grand Junction Colorado, Cristobal and Sabinita Ortiz of Cordova, Nancy Trujillo of Alcalde, Arturo and Olivia Ortiz of La Mesilla, Martina and Rumaldo Romero of Kerns, Utah, Ruth Ortiz of Chimayo; and sister-in-law, Frutosa Lopez of Truchas. Public Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a Devotional Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers Ronnie Lovato, Anthony Quintana, Kenneth Lovato, Adam Martinez, Alex Lovato and Humberto Flores. Honorary pallbearers named are, April Martinez, Marie Leyba, Annaadale Valdez, Tamara Lovato, Janelle Lopez, Christy Saiz, Nicole Valdez, Amanda Lopez and Isis Lopez. The Lopez family would like to extend their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice Staff and volunteers and Dr. Bjorklund and his staff for the care of Mrs. Lopez. The family is also very grateful for the many prayers, visits and support of her family and friends during this difficult time. The family of Asencionita Lopez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
