Asencion - Age 81 - Vallecitos Gallegos

Asencion Gallegos – Age 81 a resident of Vallecitos passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Jose Leandro Gallegos; her parents: Mr. Jose Librado Garcia and Mrs. Carmelita Archuleta-Garcia; a daughter, Rebecca Gallegos; two sons: Patricio and Julian Gallegos; a grandson, Margarito Medina; and three brothers: Joe, Tony and Pete Garcia. Mrs. Leandro Gallegos was a licensed midwife for over 30 years. During those 30 years, she consulted with Dr. Leonard Akes in regards to her midwifery patients. She also worked for five years as a cook for the Mesa Vista Consolidated School District. Many people may remember Asencion to be an excellent masseuse (sobadora). As a youngster and adult, she labored as a Migrant Farm Worker always expressing how strenuous a job that was. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Medina and husband Steve of Sanford, CO; son, Johnny Gallegos and wife Shada of Grants, NM; daughter, Dolores Lopez and husband Robert of Española, NM; daughter, Patricia Gallegos of Ojo Caliente, NM; daughter-in-law, Julie Gallegos of Ojo Caliente, NM; daughter, Elaine Archuleta and husband Rudy of El Rito, NM; daughter, Margaret Alire and husband Donald of Vallecitos, NM; son, Richard Gallegos and wife Daniella of Tierra Azul, NM and son, Robert Gallegos and companion Gabriel Ortega of Rio Rancho, NM; 33 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Church in Vallecitos. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Church in Vallecitos. Burial will follow at the Vallecitos Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Steve, Leon and Erica Medina, John Dean, Joey and James Gallegos, Robert Lopez, Christopher Archuleta, Gary, Leandro and Daniel Gallegos, Julian Gallegos, Dominic, Javier and Santiago Archuleta, Alex Griego, Jared, Miguel, Jonathan and Brandon Alire, Jason Gallegos, Jennifer, Frances and Estrella, Kimberly, Jerralynn, Anita, Rebecca, Felicia, Sasha, Estrella and Brittany.
