ASCENCION Y. MARTINEZ “SUNSHINE”, 88, born in Chimayo on May 13, 1923. He went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on November 23, 2011. Ascension was a member of the Templo Calvario (The Lighthouse) Assembly of God Church in Chimayo. He was a Deacon at the church for 37 years where he loved singing and serving the Lord. Ascencion was the center of the Martinez family and an amazing role model to his children, grandchildren and great-grand-children. He worked as a cement truck driver for about 32 years. He enjoyed working on his farm and selling at the farmers market. Ascencion was well known and well loved by many people. He brought happiness and sunshine to everyone’s life through his generosity and kindness. You will be dearly missed Honey, Daddy and Grandpa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Petrita Martinez; daughter, Corina and great-granddaughter, Angelica Valdez; brothers, Esquipula and Manuel Martinez; sisters, Bernadita Coriz, Evangelia Martinez and Julia Salazar. Mr. Martinez is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Seferina Martinez; children, Gilbert Martinez and wife Dorothy, Helen Trujillo and husband Julian, Rosendo Martinez and Cindy, Dalila Archuleta and husband Pete, Ascencion Martinez, Jr. and wife Bobbie, Noel Martinez and Diane, Toby Martinez and Audrey, Evelyn Martinez and Joseph, Eric Martinez and Diane; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at The Lighthouse Church in Chimayo with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. also at The Lighthouse Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Assembly of God Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, Allen Trujillo, Gilbert Martinez, Jr., Joshua Martinez, Walter Martinez, Jeff Archuleta and Eli Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family of Ascencion Y.
