Ascension - Age 71 - Velarde - Herrera

Asension “Chona” Herrera, 71, a resident of Velarde passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010 following a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Salomon and Rufina Duran; brother, Esequiel Duran; sister, Helen Ortega; son, Joe Anthony Herrera Sr.; niece Sandra Duran; great-granddaughter, Ibis Adia Herrera. Chona was warm hearted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and nina. She enjoyed her outdoor life. She is survived by her husband, Jose R. Herrera of Velarde; daughter, Emily Romero and husband Roy of Cordova; grandsons, Joe A. Herrera Jr. and wife Shaya of Velarde, Roy Romero and wife Tonya of Cordova; granddaughter, Jennifer Gonzales and husband Anthony of Velarde, and Nicole Romero of Cordova; great-grandchildren, Miya Romero of Cordova, Makayla Herrera of Velarde, Esperanza Gonzales of Velarde; sisters, Yolanda Montoya and husband Jimmy of Velarde, Ida Herrera and husband Robert of La Mesilla and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the El Buen Pastor Church in Ranchitos with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. also at the EL Buen Pastor Church in Ranchitos. Cremation will follow services. Burial to follow at the Loma Vista Cemetery at a later date. The family of Asension “Chona” Herrera has entrusted her funeral arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
