Arturo "El Tury" Medina

March 10, 1942 — January 13, 2019

Arturo F. “El Tury” Medina, 76, a lifelong resident of El Potrero de Chimayo, peacefully joined our Lord in Heaven, surrounded by his family at his home on Sunday, January 13, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Medina and Sofia Sandoval; stepmother, Gripinia Medina; sisters, Merlene Candelaria and Orlinda Griffin; brothers, Levi, Michael, and Gene Medina.

Throughout his life, Tury was a master of all trades. He enjoyed carpentry work, plastering, construction, and landscaping. He was a farmer since an early age, cultivating the land and raising animals. He maintained the acequias in Chimayo. He preserved the foods from his harvests to share and enjoy throughout the year. Tury had a passion for collecting classic cars known as “oldies” or lowriders. He loved dancing with his wife and socializing with his beloved family and friends. Tury was a man of great faith and he loved to share his stories and his miraculous testimonies. Tury handed down all of his talents and traditions to his family and friends. His legacy will live on.

Mr. Medina is survived by his wife Annie of 56 years; his sons, Arthur (Lowlow) Medina and wife Joan, Charles Medina and wife Andrea; daughter, Sharon Candelario and husband Adam; grandchildren, Anamaria and companion Andres Valdez, and Marisol Medina, Angelo and wife Vivian, Anthony, Marvin, and Bridget Medina; Julianna, Monique, and Adam Jr. Candelario; brother, Steven Medina; sisters, Bernina Medina and Priscilla Romero, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; Alfred Baca who is like a son; and his loving canine companion, Pancho.

Public visitation will begin on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo.  Serving the family as pallbearers will be Angelo Medina, Anthony Medina, Marvin Medina, Bridget Medina, Julianna Candelario, Monique Candelario, Anamaria Medina, Marisol Medina and Adam Candelario.

The family of Arturo F. “El Tury” Medina has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
