Arthur "Artie" Age - 59 - Ohkay Owi Ortiz

Arthur “Artie” Ortiz, 59, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012. He was born December 14, 1952. Arthur or “Artie” as everyone knew him worked at Santa Fe Community College for 28 years. Artie was very dedicated to his job and the staff at SFCC working until he departed this life. Artie was very instrumental in assisting to write the Tewa language dictionary. As a young adult, Artie enjoyed performing and traveling to share with the larger community his traditional dances performing for the Pope during a visit to Philadelphia, PA and Washington D.C. Artie was a well known musician founding several bands, Sundance and Heritage. Artie was preceded in death by his parents, Porfirio and Isabel Ortiz; sister, Geri Ortiz; nephew, Max Ortiz, Jr. Artie is survived by his daughters: Winona Ortiz and husband Michael of Pojoaque, Jolene Ortiz and husband Matthew Martinez of Ohkay Owingeh, Andrea and Nanette Ortiz of Ohkay Owingeh; mother of his children, Nancy Ortiz of Ohkay Owingeh; brother, Max Ortiz; sister, Grace Ortiz; grandchildren: Chenoah, Christian, Jayden, Tyler, Hailey, Jordan, Jason, Dante, Catelynn, Jayla and Jaylene; nieces that were like daughters: Dawn Drapeau, Maxine Abeyta and Rose Marquez; numerous relatives, nieces, nephews who he loved dearly. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 7; 00 p.m. at the family home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with burial to follow at Ohkay Owingeh Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Mike Ortiz, Christian Martinez, Matthew Martinez, Jason Abeyta, Joseph Ortiz, Edgar Cata, Mike A. and Paul Lujan.
