ARSENIO J. HERRERA, known as A.J., 19, originally of Española and currently a resident of Santa Fe, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arsenio and Eufelia Fernandez; paternal grandfather, Johnny C. Herrera; cousins, Roland Quintana, Mario Valerio, Margarita Valdez; aunt, Josie Krauss; step-father, Darrell Jaramillo; great-grandmother, Eduvigen Quintana. He graduated in 2009 and referred to his diploma as his “PHD”, Pojoaque High School Diploma. He loved hunting, the outdoors, work and was a free spirit. He always had a handshake or hug for all. A.J. is survived by his mother, Bernadette Jaramillo of Santa Fe; father, Tony B. Herrera of Riverside; brother, Antonio Herrera and companion Jessica Romero of Española; sister, Alicia Mascareñas of Dixon; step-sister, Larissa Jaramillo of Santa Fe; paternal grandmother, Amada Q. Herrera of Riverside; God-parents, Alice Martinez and Johnny P. Quintana; paternal uncles and aunts, Leroy Herrera and wife Erlinda, Johnny C. Herrera Jr. and wife Elvira, Michael Herrera and wife Angelica, Helen Atencio and husband Eddie, Lily Garcia and husband Andy, Eva Medina and husband Leroy, Judy Maestas and husband Jerry, JoAnn Herrera and companion Daniel Martinez, Cathy Herrera and companion Lucas Cordova; maternal aunts and uncle, Maria Armijo and husband Chris, Brenda Valdez, Lorraine Valdez and husband Pedro, Clara Flores and husband Ernie, Irene Montoya and husband Eliseo and Joseph Gutierrez; girlfriend, Kayla Sanchez and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and a grand number of close friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. also at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial to follow at the Rosario Cemetery in Santa Fe with the following serving as pallbearers, Antonio Herrera, Johnny C. Herrera III, Eliseo Montoya, Myron Cordova, Estevan Gallegos and Orlando Armijo. The Herrera family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
