Arnold Maximilano Lucero, 97, a resident of Velarde, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 30, 2015. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Lucero; granddaughter, Isabela Lucero; parents, Ciprano and Guadalpita Lucero; brothers, Ciprano, Joe, Abad and Osmundo; sisters, Flora Lucy and Aurola. Arnold was employed with the Española School district for over 30 years as an Art and Music teacher. He was a Military Veteran with the U.S. Army, and was with the American Legion. Arnold is survived by his son, Juan and Alicia Lucero of Las Cruces, daughter, Valerie and Manuel Trujillo of Velarde; grandson, Juanito Lucero of Albuquerque, Aaron, Zion and Isaiah Serrano of Las Vegas Nevada and Peter Serrano of Albuquerque, granddaughters, Isabell Lucero of Los Angeles CA, Amber Serrano of Albuquerque, 8 great-grandchildren; nephew, Verne Lucero of Albuquerque. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde. Burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers, Juanito, Issac, Isabell, Aaron, Zion, Amber, Isaiah and Peter. Honorary pallbearers are his great-grandchildren, his nephews and nieces. The family of Arnold Maximilano Lucero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
