Arlene J. Herrera, 59, a resident of McLoud, Oklahoma, passed away suddenly on May 5, 2021. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Rudy Herrera and Dora Dirt; stepmother, Beatrice Gonzales; brothers, Sam Chacon, Fernando Herrera, and Robert Tyner; and nephew, Daniel Tyner Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Keauana Batson-Vasquez of Denver, CO; sister, Mary Alice Herrera of Alcalde, NM; brothers, Vicente Herrera of Ojo Caliente, NM, Manuel Herrera (Frankie) and Daniel Tyner of OK; Special Stepdaughter, Katherine Dinwiddie of McLoud, OK; grandchildren, Makai Vasquez, KeZiah Herrera, Krew and Braid Butler; nieces, Kimberly & Miranda Montoya, Samantha Herrera, Daniele Dennison, Dannette Freudenberg and Tonia Tyner; nephews, Jesse, Bob and Michael Herrera; longtime companion, Doug Wright; very dear relatives and friends, Andrew Gonzales, Pete & Ramona Herrera, Amy Salazar, Gabriel Quintana, Sandra Pasma, Sue & Vernon Bouse; furry niece Mavis, furry nephew Valen; and many other relatives and friends.
Arlene was someone who never hesitated to lend a helping hand and enjoyed making others smile and laugh. She had an infectious personality that allowed her to make friends anywhere she went. She looked forward to her trips home to New Mexico and visits with her sister and nieces. There was never a dull moment when she was in town. She also looked forward to get-togethers for holidays, birthdays, and just because days with her friends and family everywhere she went. Arlene was the queen of Yahtzee and was always up to play a game. She was quite lucky when she would go to the casino and enjoyed playing bingo. She was very skilled in crocheting and enjoyed making blankets among other things. She made the best meat pies and corn soup in town. She had a strong faith in God and trusted him on her journey throughout life’s hardships, accomplishments and her happiest moments with those she dearly loved. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
A cremation memorial service was held on May 14, 2021 at the Dale Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Dale, OK, and she has returned to her final resting place in New Mexico.
A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the San Juan de Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito with burial to follow at the El Rito Placitas Cemetery. The family of Arlene J. Herrera has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
