ANTONIO “TONY” LUIS MARTINEZ, 95, a lifelong resident of Chimayo, died peacefully in Los Alamos surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 after succumbing to a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Romulita “Romie” Salazar Martinez; daughter, Evelyn Martinez; son, Anthony Martinez; son-in-law, Walter Holmes; grandson, Dominic Martinez; parents, Severo and Julianita Martinez; sisters, Fidelita Martinez and husband Fidel, Pulita Vigil and husband Roberto, Juanita Vigil and husband Bonifacio, Alicia Martinez, Manuelita Martinez, and Dolorita Martinez; brothers, Seledon Martinez, Castulo Martinez; brother-in-law, Victor Vigil; mother-in-law, Romanita Varela Salazar and father-in-law, Antonio David Salazar and numerous in laws. As a young man and truck driver for Mayflower, he drove through most the continental United States. He then worked for the Transportation Department for the state of NM from which he retired. In his eighties, he fulfilled a life-long dream when he visited the land where his ancestors emigrated from, Spain. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his ranch, cattle and horses, plus he traveled to Venice Italy, Rome, Paris, Mexico ans Spain. Antonio “Tony” Martinez is survived by his daughters, Celine Martinez and husband Rudy of Los Alamos and Lillian Holmes of Chimayo; grandchildren, Jaki Martinez (Alan), Antoinette Romero (Danny), Tamika Holmes (Jon), Joaquin Holmes, Anthony Martinez, and Michelle Martinez; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Brianna, Zachary, Lucas, Kierra, Devonn, Matthew, Noah, Malachi, Jaylynn, Bethany, Anthony IV, Josiah, and Dominic; sisters, Euralia Vigil and Susie Martinez and husband Abel; sisters-in-law, Josephine Martinez and Grace Salazar. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mario Pacheco and the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions only 80 people will be allowed inside the church. Burial to follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz with the following serving as pallbearers, Wilfred Martinez, Gilbert Martinez, Pete Casados, Wilfred Romero, Ralph Martinez, and Estevan Griego. Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends.
