ANTONIO MARIA MAESTAS, 93, a resident of Canjilon, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olibama Maestas; daughters, Maria and Ernestina Maestas; sons, Gerard Maestas and Johnny Martinez; brother, Jose Maestas; sisters, Isabel and Faustin Martinez, Tonita and Jose Baldonado, Alejandrina and Jimmy Abeyta, Sobeida and Marcelino Trujillo, and Ermeraldo and Victoria Martinez; daughter-in-law, Rose Maestas; and son-in-law, Johnny Cata. Antonio served in the United States Army during WWII, serving in China, Burma, India as well as Philippines and Saigon in the Pacific circling the globe. After returning home from the services, he worked in Utah, Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. He was a very proud Veteran. Antonio also worked for 24 years and retired from the US Forest Service and was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Maestas is survived by his children, Paul Maestas (Viola), Charlie Maestas (Noreen), Dennis Maestas (Jane), Pancha Cata, Clara Trujillo (Martin), and Anthony and Edward Maestas; grandchildren, Paul (Victoria), Jesse (Sandra), Jimmy (Delilah), Carlos (Renee), Johnny, Dina (Mike), Tracy (Leonard), Shannon (Dave), Carlos, Melinda (Jake), Brenda, Jose Onesimo (Felisha), Naomi, Jonathan, Cynthia, Zac, Cecila, Jessica, Olibama, Amanda, Eddie, Trino and Jessica; 33 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren and numerous other nieces, nephews relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Canjilon with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Canjilon Catholic Cemetery with the following serving the family as pallbearers, Jesse Apodaca, Carlos Maestas, Jose Onesimo Maestas, Jonathan Cata, Zac Maestas, and Eddie Maestas. Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren.
