Antonio J. Atencio (Tony), 84, of El Duende, NM,

May 24, 1940 – April 17, 2025

It is with great love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Antonio J. (Tony) Atencio, surrounded by his family, on April 17, 2025.

Tony was preceded in death by his sons Danny and Matthew Atencio; grandchildren: Nicole and Donovan Atencio; parents Antonio and Tomasita Atencio; brothers and sisters-in-law Manuel (Natividad), Margarito (Mary and Ellie), Abelino, and Gilberto Atencio; sisters and brothers-in-law Adela (Delfio) Vigil, Criselia (Ernesto) Vigil, Margarita (Jose Benancio) Baca, Rosalina (Jose Maria) Herrera, Louisa (Joe) Padilla, Tomasita (Sebedello) Ortega, and Esther Villa; parent in-laws Pablita (Thomas) Borrego; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bernardo (Melba) Baroz, Eugene, Emilio and Andres Borrego.

Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Lourdes Atencio; children Anthony (Yvette) Atencio, Eva (Johnny) Martinez, Larry (Cathy) Atencio, Emilio (Shirley) Atencio and Pamela Atencio; grandchildren Crystal (Nathaniel) Atencio, Stephanie (Jason) and Alyson (Marty) Martinez, Larry Jr. (MariaLucia) Atencio, Samantha, Andres, Devin, and Landon Atencio, Anissa Martinez, Jenasii Lara, Leo and Deanza Archuleta; great grandchildren Isaiah, Dominic, Jeremy, Cruz, Alina, Selena, Michael, Martin, Kailey and Matthew; brothers and sisters-in-law Florinda Atencio, Mary Vigil, Josina Clark, Robert (Carrie) Borrego, Michael (Florinda) Borrego and Patricia Borrego.

A Public Viewing will take place at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 5:00pm followed by a rosary at 6:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz, NM, followed by a burial at San Jose Cemetery in Hernandez, NM.

Serving as Pallbearers are Anthony, Larry, Emilio, Larry Jr., Landon, Devin Atencio and Johnny Martinez.
