ANNIE LUJAN, 89, a lifelong resident of El Rancho, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 following a brief illness at the family home surrounded by her loving children. Annie was born to Jose Maria and Delfina Serna on May 25, 1926. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernardo Lujan; son, Bernardo Lujan, Jr.; brother, Joe Serna; sisters, Bernardita Gomez and Ruby Shirley. Annie worked at the Los Alamos National Lab for 35 years retiring in 1982. The fondest memory was her first job there, baby sitting for the scientists involved in the Manhattan Project. This included Mr. Edward Teller, Hans Bethe, Enrico Fermi and Col. Ashbridge. In 1944 Mr. Edward Teller helped Annie acquire a position with the Manhattan Project which she also took great pride in. Annie is survived by her loving children who will miss her dearly and treasure all the moments they shared with her, daughter, Berlina Ortiz and husband Sam, and son, Carlos Lujan; grandchildren who she loved and adored, Michael Ortiz (Susannah), Adrian Ortiz (Bianca), Dominic Sauer (Deanna), and Rosa Maria Lujan (Robert); 11 great-grandchildren, Chenoah, Hailey, Dante, Kira, Adrian II, Jayden, Jericho Jaslyn, Marcos, Robert, and Aliyah,; brother-in-law, Joe Lujan and wife Erma; sisters-in-law, Helen Lujan, Frances Lujan, Mary and husband R. Abed and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque, with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at a later date.
