Anita Valdez

Anita Valdez (92) passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her husband Bernardo Valdez Sr. and her daughter Darlene (Martin )Guillen, her parents Melaquias and Rosanna Esquibel, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and other family members.

She is survived by her sister Cordy Martinez, her brother (that she considered a son) Horace (Pablita) Esquibel, sister in law Angela Esquibel, sister in law Dolores (Arturo) Martinez, her children Velma (Leroy) Martinez, Eugenio (Georgia) Valdez, Felix (Mary Agnes, deceased) Valdez, Rafaelita (Alfred, deceased)Garcia, Elmo (Mabel) Valdez, Andrew (Veronica) Valdez, Bernardo Jr. (Aggie) Valdez, Gloria (Wayne, deceased) Brito, 26 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and 17 great great grandchildren.

Anita was born December 5, 1928 in Ojo Sarco, New Mexico and raised in Velarde, New Mexico where she also met her husband Bernardo, they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

Anita’s biggest joy was her family. She was the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, God mother, and best friend anyone could ask for. Not only did she stay at home and raise 9 children, she also helped raise her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Her house was never empty.

Anita enjoyed cooking, canning every type of food you can think of. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and most of all doing word searches. She made the best tortillas ever! Anita’s unique sense of humor will be missed, but will never be forgotten.

We would like to thank Ideal Home Healthcare, Roadrunner Hospice, the Presbyterian nurse coordinator, Mildred Montoya for taking the time to take communion to Anita everyday and the caregivers for their help in caring for our mother.

A rosary will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, with a mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Velarde Catholic Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Carlos Martinez, Mark Valdez, Keith Garcia, Joey Valdez, Albino Valdez and Adrian Brito. Honorary Pallbearers are Adel Valdez, Santiago Lopez, Jayden Penns and Horace Esquibel. Please practice Covid 19 safety, every one is required to wear a mask and keep a mask on at all times.
