Angel Marie Martinez, of Espanola, born on September 19, 1987, took her last breath on August 29, 2023, while a brilliant sun set over the Valley.
Angel was the epitome of beauty inside and out. Her adventurous spirit and zest for life was inspiring. Angel was a truly amazing person, always giving through her kindness and compassion. She had a heart of gold and a genuine love for others that made a lasting impact on everyone she knew and met. She spoke to everyone whole heartedly and made even the quickest conversation special and memorable. Angel could always be counted on for sincere conversations filled with words of encouragement understanding, and wisdom whenever needed. She supported her family and friends with loyalty and care through times of celebration and times of sadness. Angel had the incredible gift of bringing family and friends together. She created long-lasting memories full of laughter and fun with every single person in her life.
The things that made Angel’s heart happy were being in the mountains (camping at 7.2 or El Rito), cruising the backroads, and anything to do with water (except frogs), whether it was fishing with her mother Annabelle, or floating down the river. Angel was the ultimate DJ and photographer for all occasions. She loved dancing, losing to Annabelle at cards and board games, being with her family and friends, and coaching. Angel was always the life of the party, with her contagious laughter and her competitiveness in any game. Everything Angel did, she did with Annabelle; her mother and best friend, by her side.
Angel was a sports fanatic and a hardcore Raiders and Yankees fan. She coached softball, t-ball, and basketball to the youth of the valley. From the Tee-ball Dino-Mytes, to the Rockettes, to the Espanola Valley High School Sundevils and McCurdy Bobcats. Angel loved all her athletes from the tinies to the teens. Under her guidance, countless athletes discovered their potential and deepened their love of the game. Her passion and dedication as a coach led to greatness both on and off the field.
Angel and Annabelle were inseparable. Through thick and thin, they stood by each other, creating unforgettable memories, and showing each other unwavering support. There was never a game where Annabelle wasn’t on Angel’s sidelines cheering her on. She was there for every game, every adventure, and every special moment. Annabelle was, and always will be Angel’s #1 fan.
To her family, Angel was everything. She loved her family with all her heart and would go above and beyond for any of them. She was the little cousin, but she was there for everyone, always giving the best advice. She had an incredible gift for bringing everyone together and filled everyone’s lives with love and happiness. They will always remember little Angel stealing dinner rolls from her Uncle Paul’s plate and hiding under her cousin’s truck wearing her little polka-dot dress when she was scared. The family will be incomplete without her.
There are truly no words to describe how much she will be missed by all who knew her. Her loss leaves a big hole in our hearts and community.
