Andy Gallegos, 89, born on September 6, 1920 in Cañyon de Rio de Chama, died May 12, 2010. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Isaida Gallegos; daughter, Eufelia Cordova; grandson, Alfonso Cordova Jr.; parents, Manuel and Adela Gallegos; sisters, Siria Lopez, Eliza Gonzales, Eloisa Aragon, Juanita Salazar, Albinita Maestas; brothers, Julio and Juan Gallegos. Andy loved spending time with his grandchildren and telling jokes. His favorite saying was, “I see said the blind man” with his grandchildren answering “as he picked up his hammer and saw.” He was a great people person, making friends everywhere he went. He had a wonderful sense of humor and great personality. The job he enjoyed most was working for the Monastery of Christ in the dessert for 10 years. He also worked for the Rio Arriba County and Jemez Mountain Schools for several years. He was also a sheep herder for many years. Andy is survived by his granddaughter, Julia Salazar and husband Fermin of Gallina; son-in-law, Alfonso Cordova Sr. of Gallina; grandchildren, Celina Villalba and husband Alfredo; Fermin Salazar Jr., Leticia Salazar, Donna Cordova and Grace Cordova, all of Gallina, Rebecca Romero and husband Kevin, Marie Cordova both of Espanola, Emily Martinez, Clariza Cordova, both of Rio Rancho; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Martinez, Jessica Martinez, Shane Hernandez, Shamayne Hernandez, Shelly Padilla, Joseph Roybal, Timothy Cordova, great-great-grandchildren, Ariel, Savanah Salazar, Marcos Villalba, Alyana Sandoval, Anayla Padilla, Jeremiah Padilla, Alija Luna, Marco Luna and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, burial will follow at the Cordova Family Plot in Capulin with the following serving as pallbearers, Fermin Salazar Jr., Jonathan Martinez, Shane Hernandez, Joseph Roybal, Kevin Romero and Alfredo Villalba. Honorary pallbearers are Fermin Salazar Sr., Alfonso Cordova Sr., Leticia Salazar, Rebecca Romero, Celina and Marcos Villalba and Timothy Cordova.
