Amelia Trujillo

Born to Jose Tomas and Teodosia Marquez on August 20, 1930, Amelia is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Garcia, Josephine Trujillo, Cecilia (Ken Alire), Angela (Peter Pecos ), Caroline (Cipie Maez), and Rosalie (Marcos Garcia); granddaughter she helped raise, Natasha Trujillo-Madrid (Wyatt); grandchildren Julie Lawrence (Shaun), Tomas Salas (Lake), Genevieve Fairchild (Geoffrey), Kathleen Salas, Isaac and Audrey Garcia and Natalia and Marissa Maez; and great grandchildren Mia Lawrence, Santiago and Ojito Garcia, Remi Salas and Mackenzie and Ashleigh Enriquez.  She is also survived by her siblings Mary Vigil (Leonard), Max Marquez (Vangie) and Tomas Marquez (Linda); and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe M. Trujillo, son-in-law Noberto Garcia, grandson Nathan Garcia; sisters Juanita Alire, Celia Trujillo, Marcelina Gallegos, and Grace Martinez; and brother Tomasito Marquez. 

Amelia was a strong willed, vivacious woman who spoke her mind freely and had a wicked, dry sense of humor.  In her younger days she enjoyed picking pinon, going for wood, and hunting with her husband.  She enjoyed the fall harvest and would freeze, can and dry fruits and vegetables for her family. She loved making chicos and peeling green chile. Her baking, especially her bread, will never be duplicated.  She had a green thumb and loved working in her flower beds with many of her early plants still thriving.  She loved the casino and was actually very lucky.  She loved to read, and books were always a favorite gift. She kept up to date on politics and current affairs and could talk to anyone about anything. She was an animal lover and was usually surrounded by her children and grandchildren’s pets. She enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing stories of her childhood and her many adventures.  She was a woman of strong Catholic faith until the very end.

A Rosary will be on Tuesday September 19, 2023 at 6:00pm in the Sangre De Cristo chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. There will be a Rosary on Wednesday September 20, 2023 at 9:30am at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito, NM. Mass will follow at 10:00am. Burial to follow at the El Rito Community Cemetery.
