Amelia Martinez – A devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed peacefully to rest on November 30, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Amelia was retired from the Rio Arriba County Homemaker Seniors Program. She treasured her clients and their time spent together. After her retirement Amelia became involved with the local Senior Citizens Center where she enjoyed the various programs and activities held. She met many new and special friends and cherished her time with them. Amelia dedicated her life to caring for her family especially her son. Amelia’s daily ray of light was her granddaughter Mikayela whom she loved spending time with. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernardino Lopez; and husband of 40 years, Mike G. Martinez. Amelia loved her family immensely and is survived by her mother, Francesquita Lopez of El Rito, NM; son, Randy Martinez; daughter, Leslie Martinez along with Jonathan all of Española; granddaughter, Mikayela Martinez; brothers: Ambrosio Martinez and wife Simona of Colorado Springs, CO; Andres Lopez and wife Joann of El Rito, NM; George Lopez and wife Rosemary of La Jara, NM; sisters: Eva Martinez and husband Danny of Albuquerque, NM; Rosie Lucero and husband David of El Rito, NM; Marvine Dent of Rocky Ford, CO; and many nephews and nieces. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez with Father Pat Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The following will be serving as pallbearers: Cesario Lopez, Dominic Lopez, Abel Espinoza, Sam Maestas, Steven Martinez and Joe Lopez. Honorary pallbearers: granddaughter Mikayela Martinez, all her nieces and nephews and all her close, special friends. The family of Amelia Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
