AMANDA N. VALDEZ, 16, a resident of Alcalde and Arroyo Seco, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her brother, Adrian J. Valdez; great-grandmothers, Ercilia Mollohan and Juliana G. Trujillo; maternal grandparents, Elizario “Joe” Armijo and Tranquilino and Rose Armijo and paternal grandfather, Juan Valdez. Amanda attended Española Valley High School. She was a very loving person who loved animals, arts and crafts and her dog “precious”. She was a computer wiz and a Raider’s fan. Amanda is survived by her mother, Jolene Martinez and husband Jerry of Arroyo Seco; father, Norman Valdez and wife Pauline of Alcalde; step-brother, Eppie L. Martinez Jr. of Alcalde; step-sister, Ashley Cook of Hawaii; uncles and aunts, Marvin Valdez and wife Patsy of Alcalde, Chris Roybal and wife Edwina of La Puebla, Cerina Armijo and companion Fabian of Fairview and Scott Lopez of Irvin, California; grandparents, Mabel Valdez of Alcalde; and Leroy and Celina Lopez; great-grandmother, Adelia Valdez of Alcalde special cousin who was like a sister, Felicia Martinez; and numerous cousins and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the La Villita Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Andrew and DeAnna Sanchez, Eppie Martinez Jr., Mike Armijo, Aaron Padilla and Reyana Segovia. Honorary pallbearers named are, Heather Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Dominic Roybal, Kevin de la Cruz, Alexa and Tea Lopez and Albert Gallegos Jr.. The family would like to thank the medical staff at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque who were involved in Amanda’s life.
