Amadeo Ernesto Galvez, 76, died suddenly yet peacefully at home in Ojo Caliente, on Monday, February 2, 2015. He was born to Maria and Francisco Galvez on April 4, 1938. Amadeo was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Francisco Galvez; grandsons, Jonathan Galvez and Christopher Marquez; brother, Donald Galvez; brothers-in-law, Phil Campos, Leroy Campos, Fernando Campos, Joe Martinez, Hipolito Chavez and Daniel Martinez. Amadeo served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Amadeo married Elizaida Campos on December 30, 1963 and together they raised their two children. He worked for the New Mexico State Highway Department and retired in 2001. Amadeo enjoyed his retirement caring for horses, growing gardens, spending time with his grandchildren and helping his much loved family and friends in any way he could. Amadeo is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizaida Galvez of Ojo Caliente; son, Joseph Galvez and wife Christina, daughter, Rebecca Galvez-Martinez and husband Gerald Martinez; grandchildren, Veronica Galvez, Meg Martinez, Vanessa Galvez, and Alec Martinez; brother, Lupe Galvez, and wife Amelia of Albuquerque; three sisters, Griselda Chavez of Española, Cristela Martinez of El Rito and Gilia Martinez of Ojo Caliente, and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente, with a burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Leroy Campos, David Campos, Ronald Campos, Gary Martinez, Emanuel Galvez, and Mario Galvez, honorary pallbearer Johnny Martinez. The family of Amadeo Ernesto Galvez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.\r\n
