Alvaro V. Madrid, 70, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in Española. He was born and raised in Youngsville (Rio Puerco) NM, and at an early age entered the Franciscan Seminary where he studied and devoted many years of his life there. The St. Franciscan Seminary was the beginning of his journey and from there he got into an extensive medical field. He was a Registered Nurse and worked in many hospitals and Nursing Homes throughout New Mexico and other states. He was preceded in death by his parents, Facundo and Cruzita Madrid; infant brother, Mizel; two brothers-in-law: Arby Mayrant and Valetine Guillen, Sr.; three nieces: Barbara Herrera, Darlene Robbins and Maggie Howie; two nephews: Phillip Madrid, Jr. and Robert Guillen. Alvaro is survived by three brothers: Ildefonso and wife Elsie, Felipe Madrid of Youngsville and Richard and wife Cordy of Cañones; three sisters: Cordy Myrant of California, Madge Boyd and husband Leo of Virginia, Matilda and husband Herman of Tierra Azul. He is also survived by his uncle; godfather Octaviano Madrid; numerous nieces, nephews & other loving relatives and friends. Alvaro’s passions in life were family, relatives, friends, and his two dogs “Scotty” and “Hoots”. He enjoyed gardening and eating traditional home made meals. He also enjoyed sculpturing wooden ducks, which he donated to banks and family. He will be greatly missed and will be forever remembered by the fortunate ones that knew him. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Coyote with burial to follow at Coyote Catholic Cemetery.
