Alvaro Cardona-Hine, poet, painter and composer, died peacefully in his home in Truchas, on Sunday, August 28, 2016 after surviving a fall that led to a cascade of events that weakened him. A gracious, generous man who mentored many artists as well as ordinary folks who wanted to try their hands at writing or painting, often with no recompense expected or wanted. He was the author of over 30 books. A successful, well-known painter who, together with his wife, Barbara McCauley, opened their own gallery in Truchas almost 30 years ago; inadvertently becoming pioneers in the movement of artists to representing their own work outside of established galleries. The days before his passing were graced with the presence of many members of
his family, neighbors and friends. He leaves his wife, Barbara; daughters, Elena and Aglaia; son, Miguel; 3 grandchildren, 1great-granddaughter and many friends. The family of Alvaro Cardona-Hine has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
