ALICE B. NUNO, 83, a resident of Chama, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Rafelita Garcia; husband, Jose S. Nuño; brothers, David, Rosendo, Mike; sisters, Libradita Flores and Eulalia Martinez; sons, George Sr. , Johnny, Joey and Johnny; grandson, Chance Madrid and Johnny Couatser. Alice was the Owner of Foster’s Hotel, Restaurant and Saloon, was born in Canjilon New Mexico. She began the restaurant business in Chama at a place called The Busy Bee in 1977. She leased Foster’s Hotel for three years and in 1979, through hard work, she purchased it. Alice invested in major renovations on the interior of the building. She not only preserved it from deterioration but she also preserved its history. Once called the Harvey House, it was the hotel for all railroad passengers, and has great historical significance to the area. Alice is survived by her daughters, Anna Nuño of CA, Rosario Madrid of Chama, Rebecca Nuño of Chama, and Josefina Russom (John) of Chama; 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Tomasito Garcia (Lilia) of Auburn, CA; sisters, Ernestine Sanchez (Tobias) of Tierra Amarilla, Helena Barela (Alonzo) of Seattle, WA. A rosary will be recited on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Chama. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Patrick’s Church in Chama, with a burial to follow at the Chama New Mexico Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers, Juan Vigil, Jose Nuño, John D. Russom, Spencer Russom, and George Nuño Jr. The family of Alice B.
