It is with immense sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Adelicia “Alice” Maestas, on September 21, 2020 at the age of 85. Alice was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. Alice was born in Cuarteles on December 12, 1934.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Carasiolo “Lolo”; parents, Abedon Lopez Sr. and wife Manuelita; grandparents, Casimiro and Maximiana Quintana whom raised her; three sisters, Escolastica, Rita and Maria “Pita” Montoya; five brothers, Jose Delfino, Jose Juan Inez, Abedon Lopez Jr., Tony Lopez Michael Lopez and Pheobe Anaya; as well as many other brothers and sisters-in-law.
She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and homemaker. During her lifetime she was a kind, loving, humble, thoughtful and prayerful person. She loved the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. At one time she had about 80 paintings, statues and icons of St Francis in her house. She was a very generous person and gave away most of her statues along with about 150 afghans that she made. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She was proud of their educational achievements and adventurous spirit. Alice will be greatly, greatly missed.
Alice is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Jimenez and husband Richard, and Joyce Sandoval and husband Eric; two sons, Roy and wife Cindy, and Marvin and wife Leslie; nine grandchildren, Briana and husband David Broshious, Richard Louis Jimenez, Desiree and husband Daniel Maes, Dayna Sandoval, Adam Anaya and wife Dionne, Aaron Maestas and wife Megan, Steven Maestas, and Michael and Marlie Maestas; honorary grandson, Jason Maestas; four great grandchildren, Pierce & StellaBelle Anaya, Cash Broshious and Lemmie Maestas; sisters, Jackie Varrato and husband Dave, and Connie Maestas; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Lopez, Louise Lopez, Louisa Esquibel, Nina Maestas and Lila Maestas.
She was Godmother to Marie & David Castaneda, Faith DeAguero, Cyndee Fresquez, Walter Herrera, Donald Lopez, Connie & Rudy Maestas, David Maestas, JoJo Maestas, Jose and Pita Montoya, LillieMae Ortiz, Darlene Quintana, Pami Salazar, Desiree Sandoval Maes, Lisa Trujillo and Miguel Trujillo.
Due to COVID, the Rosary services will be streamed on Facebook “Santacruz Espanola” Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 12 noon at the Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Mass will be limited to 100 and will also be streamed at address above .
A private interment will follow at the National Cemetery.
