Alfonso Martinez Sr.

Alfonso C. Martinez, Sr., born March 4, 1952, in Sabinoso, NM, and a resident of Espanola, was called home, on August 14, 2021, after a short illness.  Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his parents Navor and Ramoncita Martinez; siblings Navor Jr., Susana, Bingo, Frances, Cruz, George and Jose; In-Laws Leo and Stella Arguello.

Al is survived by his wife Irene, whom he loved very much.  They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.  He is also survived by his daughter Darlene Munoz (Juan), son Alfonso Martinez, Jr. (Natalie) and his beloved grandchildren: Amanda, Analisa, TJ, AJ, Alizabeth, Mark, Danielle, Natalie and Juan, Jr. and great granddaughter Zarina; siblings Mike Martinez, Simon Martinez, Della Garcia, Pita Jaramillo and Connie Martinez.  Mr. Martinez also had numerous close family and friends.

His favorite things to do were fishing and hunting with his son Fonze and grandsons TJ and AJ, who he had a special bond with.  He also loved camping with his family, tinkering in his shop making canales and growing a vegetable garden.  He was often seen riding around town with his dog Shadow in the back of his truck.

A Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 7PM at DeVargas Funeral Home in the Sangre de Christo Chapel.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 9AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Mosquero, NM.

Serving as Pallbearers are Alfonso Jr., AJ, TJ, Juan Garcia, Juan Munoz, Jimmy Martinez, Eric Martinez, Joey Arguello and Tommy Arguello.  Honorary Pallbearers are Amanda Martinez, Analisa Martinez, Alizabeth Martinez, Danielle Jimenez and Natalie Munoz.
