Alex Joseph - age 59 - Cordova Ortiz

ALEX JOSEPH ORTIZ, 59, a resident of Cordova, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 25, 2014. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Silvianita Lopez, Ricardo and Benita Lopez and Heremerejildo and Epimenia Ortiz. Alex worked at the Los Alamos National Labs as a mechanical technician. He was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School and participated in basketball, cross country and track. He enjoyed woodcarving, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and especially good times laughing with those around him. Mr. Ortiz is survived by his parents, Cristobal and Sabinita Ortiz of Cordova; mother of his children, Bernadette Alarid of Farmington; sons, Jonathan of Farmington, Jeremy of Chili and Adam of New Hampshire; brothers and sisters, Lawrence and Betty Ortiz, Elvis and Cathy Ortiz and Orlene and Isaac Cordova all of Cordova and Amy and Cleve Turk of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren, Isaiah and Aspen Ortiz of Farmington and Kaylee and Tyler Ortiz of Española; God-daughter/niece, Erica Ortiz Flood of Denver, CO; nieces and nephews, Camille and husband Adrian Valdez and Robin Ortiz of Albuquerque, Lena Cordova, Angelo Sandoval, Bridget Ortiz, Andrew Ortiz and wife Melissa and Chris Ortiz all of Cordova and Nicholas and Vincent Turk of Henderson, Nevada; great-nieces and nephews, Jolyn, Cesar and Jaylene Ortiz, Evie Valdez and Alexis and Alejandro Ortiz and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Cordova. The family of Alex Joseph Ortiz has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
