ALESANDRO T. (ALEX) VALDEZ, 67, a resident of Española, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013 following a brief illness with his son and Judy Kuhlman by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alesandro Valdez and Louise F. Spencer and son, Matthew Valdez. Alex was born on January 17, 1946 in Silverton, CO and was raised in Lumberton by his grandfather and aunt. He enjoyed the mountains, fishing, hunting and riding horses. He worked as a truck driver for many years and was also a heavy equipment operator for the city of Santa Fe. He loved to make people laugh and smile. He will be greatly missed by his friends and all that knew him. Mr. Valdez is survived by his son, Leonard Valdez and wife Rebecca; mother of his sons, Pauline; dear friend, Helen Rodriguez; grandchildren, Jackie and Lexi Valdez, Cruz and Vivian Valdez; sisters, Linda Guzman and husband Calvin Hildebrand and Dana Spencer and her daughter, Ida Spencer; step-brothers and sisters, Anthony, Chris, Leo and Alex Valdez, Mary Ann, JoAnn and Mahalia; special God-daughter, Rachel Araiza and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. A second rosary will be recited on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Silverton, CO. Burial to take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillside Cemetery in Silverton, CO with the following serving as pallbearers, Cruz and Vivian Valdez, Larry and Bob Mata, Luis Rascon and Froylano Montoya. The family of Alesandro T. (Alex) Valdez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
