ALBERT SMITH, 73, a resident of Alcalde, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin F. and Eva Smith; brother, Paul Smith; sister, Mary Jean Birthelson; brother-in-law, Robert Armijo and Samuel Herrera and sister-in-law, Florence Herrera. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Meachele Smith of Alcalde; children, Adam Smith of Alcalde, Gary Smith of Santa Fe, Pamela Wright of Santa Fe and Joy Baca and husband Eric of Arlington, VA; sisters, Sally Armijo of Raton, Kathy Trujillo and husband Victor of Santa Fe, Nancy Baros and husband George of Santa Fe and Betty Smith-Harkins of California; brother, Franklin “Frank” Smith and wife Peggy of California; parents-in-law, Jose Ciriaco and Bernie Herrera of Alcalde; brothers-in-law, Benito Herrera of Alcalde and Phillip Herrera and companion Cathy of Alcalde; sister-in-law, Yvonne Herring and husband Allen of Los Alamos; grandchildren, Matthew Hagman of Santa Fe, Hope Smith of Santa Fe, Chantelle Smith of Santa Fe, Santana and Isabella Baca and Aaliyah Smith; God-child, Roberta Mondragon and husband Greg and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Serving the family has pallbearers, Gary Smith, Matthew Hagman, John Duran, Greg Mondragon, Frank Cortez and Eddie Armijo. Honorary pallbearers named are, Benito Herrera, Phillip Herrera, Allen Herring, Walter Herrera and Eric Baca. The family of Albert Smith has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
