ADELIA (ADELITA) MONTOYA MARTINEZ, 83, a resident of Chimayo passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side, after a lengthy illness on Sunday, November 16, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herculano and Senaida Montoya of Truchas; infant son, Rolando Martinez; brother, Filiberto Montoya of Truchas; sister, Celina Martinez of Chimayo; brothers-in-law, Chester Smith of El Rancho, Anastacio Martinez of Chimayo, Abel Martinez of Chimayo; son-in-law, Eddie Williams of Chimayo and granddaughter, Alyssia Martinez of Chimayo.\r\nAdelita is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ernesto Martinez of Chimayo; children, Jimmy Martinez and Bernadette Montoya of Chimayo, Leroy Martinez and spouse Judy of La Mesilla, Randy Martinez and spouse Darlene, Donald Martinez and spouse Luana, Louella Williams, Victor Martinez and spouse Cathy all of Chimayo. Adelita is also survived by her siblings, Margaret Smith of El Rancho, Minnie Rael and spouse Gilbert of Truchas, Tito Montoya and spouse Modesta of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Ramona Martinez of Chimayo, Emilia Montoya of La Mesilla; and brother-in-law, Genero Martinez of Chimayo. Adelita is also survived by her fifteen grandchildren; Nathan Martinez and fiancé Crystal Johns of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeremy Martinez and spouse Leah of Denver, Colorado, Melissa and Camille Martinez, David and Kassandra Martinez, Joshua, Eric and Jacinda Martinez, Anessa, Marqui and Eddie Williams, Brandon Trujillo, Estevan and Mario Martinez and many other close relatives and friends. \r\nAdelita graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1951 and married Ernesto Martinez in 1955. She worked as a practical nurse at the Española Hospital as a young adult and retired as a teacher’s assistant from the Española Public Schools. After retirement, Adelita enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking and canning fruits and vegetables from the family garden. Adelita’s greatest passion, however, was devoting her time to care for her grandchildren after school and on weekends; proudly watching them grow from infants to young adults. Adelita was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother and she was loved beyond words and will be dearly missed.\r\nThe Martinez/Williams family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Gentiva Hospice for the professional and compassionate care extended to our mother during her illness and to all the extended family and friends for their visits and prayers.\r\nPublic visitation will begin on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Jeremy Martinez, Joshua Martinez, Eric Martinez, David Martinez, Brandon Trujillo, Estevan Martinez, Eddie Williams, and Mario Martinez. The family of Adelia (Adelita) Montoya Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
