Abedon Lopez

Abedon F. Lopez, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4th, 2018.  He was born December 22, 1936, in Cuarteles NM. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Abedon Lopez Sr. and Manuelita Quintana; sons, Ralph and Robert Lopez; sister, Pita Montoya; brothers, Tony and Michael Lopez. Abedon is survived by his wife, Lorraine; daughter, Debbie; daughter, Charlene Arias (Michael); and son Donald, sisters, Alice Maestas; Jackie Varatto (David Varatto); and Connie Maestas; grandchildren, Shannon, Miguel Arias (Emeral); Danielle Ortiz (Steven), Juanito, Francine; and six great-grandchildren. Abedon is also survived by six nieces and four nephews. He retired from Los Alamos Laboratories, served in the capacity of a magistrate judge in Santa Fe County, served as a school board member in Espanola, and was a New Mexico State Senator. Abedon was compassionate, caring, and dedicated his life to helping people. As a devoted Catholic he also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Albuquerque NM. Public visitation will begin on Monday, November 12th at 5:30 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home. Followed by a rosary at 6:30 prayed by the hermanos of Lyden. On November 13th a mass will be held at Holy Cross church in Santa Cruz at 11:00 am. Burial will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 3:00 with the following serving as pallbearers, Richard Jimenez, Roy Maestas, Marvin Maestas, Eric Sandoval, Joey Valdez, and Richard Louis Jimenez, honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
