Walter Holmes

WALTER WINDFIELD HOLMES, 64, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017. Walter was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jo Holmes – Johnson; father, Winfield Holmes; mother-in-law, Romie Martinez; sister-in-law, Evelyn and brother-in-law, Anthony. Wally was a hard worker and loved to cook his famous Texas barbecue for family and friends. He was born and raised in San Marcos, TX and came to New Mexico to play football at NMHU. His football career led him to the NFL. He settled in Chimayo with his wife where they raised their children. Walter was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lillian Holmes of Chimayo; daughter, Tamika Holmes (Jon Page) of Chimayo; son, Joaquin Holmes of Albuquerque; sister, Vicki Sauls (Charles) of Dallas TX; brother, Royce (Tina) Holmes of San Antonio TX; grandchildren, Kierra, Devonn, Matthew, Malachi, Noah, and Jaylynn; father-in-law, Tony L. Martinez of Chimayo; aunt, Belle Townsend of San Marcos TX; sister-in-law, Celine Martinez (Rudy) of Los Alamos; nieces, Antoinette Romero (Danny) of Los Alamos, Jaki Martinez (Alan Brown) of Santa Fe, Greg Holmes (Cici), and Sara Holmes, both of San Antonio, TX; cousins, Mike Townsend (Edna) of San Diego CA, Patrice and Tenesa Townsend of San Marcos TX; great niece and nephews, Brianna, Daniel, Zachary and Lucas as well as many other great nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lighthouse Church in Chimayo with a burial to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Santa Cruz.
