Virginia V. (Gallegos), 89, a resident of Española, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, surrounded by her family. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon & Benita Valdez; brothers, Solomon Jr. and Don Valdez; sister, Phyllis Gomez (Feliciano); mother/father-in-law, Santiago & Anastica Gallegos; brothers/sisters-in-law, Clovis (Sarah), Santiago Jr., Willie (Tillie) Ralph, Robert (Bernie) Manuel Manzanares, Alfonso (Inez) & Jimmy Gallegos; grandchildren, Donnie Gallegos, Debbie Gallegos and Freddie Maestas. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Filemon Gallegos; daughter, Dolores Romero (Rudy) of Chimayo; sons, Philip and Donald Gallegos of Española; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings; Luis Valdez (Edna) of Española and Bernardo Valdez of Denver, Colorado; in-laws, Rose Gallegos of Santa Fe, and Mike Gallegos (Barbara) of Murano, LA, & Perscilla Gallegos of Albuquerque. She loved her family. Her amazing spirit and love of God was her mark. She was our spiritual person. She belonged to the Coro of the Sagrada Familia and was in the Cursillo of Sacred Heart Parish. She enjoyed going out to the Casinos. She worked at what was once the Balarney Stone Restaurant, Tewa Lanes Snack Bar, and Peoples Department Store in Española. She was an Educational Assistant for the Española Public Schools when she retired. A wake service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are, Lee Romero, Brandon Olivas, Shawn & Jarried Gallegos, George Valdez, Bernie Garcia, and Robert Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers are: Meryssa Romero, Jayden Olivas, Louis & Ernie Gallegos, God-children, Bernie Garcia, Eloy Manzanares, Dolores Balkey, Lucinda Manzanares, Susan Jo St. Louis and Connie Manzanares.
