Tommy D. Montoya, 70, a lifelong resident of Chimayo, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, July 5, 2019.  Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria Montoya; brothers, Rudy and Joe Montoya; son-in-law, Matthew Gutierrez; father and mother- in-law, Emiterio and Amelia Vigil; uncle, Narciso Trujillo and brothers-in-law, Ernie and Gerard Vigil.

Tommy was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather with a heart of gold whom loved his family dearly. He truly lived his life to the fullest enjoying what he loved to do such as spending time with his family, fishing, and creating wonderful art.  He could fix just about anything when he set his mind to do something there was no changing it. Tommy was a strong faithful man and devout Catholic. He was also a proud veteran of the US Air Force. He always had his unique way of showing his family how much he loved them by leaving notes of inspiration for them to find just to brighten their day.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Valerie Montoya; daughters, Claudette Grinage, Davina Montoya and Vanessa Gutierrez (Macario); grandchildren, Thomas (Raelynn) and Matthew Martinez, David Grinage, Mikayla and Jasmine Miera and Reina Chacon; great-granddaughter, Aubree Martinez; favorite nephew, Brian Vigil; godchildren, Janel Lopez and Jose Montoya; siblings, Israel Montoya (Ruby), Telesfor Montoya (Jeanette), Cruzita Lopez (Jimmy), and Betty Montoya (Lawrence); special cousin, Joe Junior Trujillo; as well as numerous relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.

A rosary to be recited on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Parish in Chimayo with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Nuestra Señora de Carmel Cemetery in Chimayo.  Serving the family as pallbearers are Macario Gutierrez, Emit Vigil, Thomas Martinez, Jeremiah Chacon, Jose Montoya and Jody Archuleta. Honorary pallbearers are Oley Grinage, Matthew Martinez, David Grinage, Mikayla and Jasmine Miera, Reina Chacon and special nieces, Marilyn Trujillo, LoriAnn Montoya and Janel Lopez.  The family of Tommy D. Montoya has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477
