Sixto Maestas II, 81, a resident of San Pedro, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Sixto was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine “Tina” Maestas; parents, Sixto I. and Senida Maestas; in-laws, Jose E. and Lougardita Quintana; brothers, Perfecto Maestas, Isidoro Maestas, Willie Quintana, Mike Quintana; sisters, Pauline and Albert Perez, Francis and Orlie Lopez, and Lavern and Joe Johason. Sixto was born and raised in Los Pachecos, married the love of his life the late Ernestine Quintana and moved to San Pedro to start a family. He worked and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory and was a dedicated member of the Santisima Trinidad of Santa Cruz and the Knights of Columbus. Sixto is survived by his children, Sixto Maestas III, Tom and wife Sandra Maestas, Jerry Maestas, Cindi and husband John Archuleta, and Isaac Maestas; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Gifford; sisters-in-law, Selene Maestas, Patsy and Leroy Duran, Joan and Stella Quintana. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, with a second rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers Thomas “TJ” Maestas, Shane Maestas, Elias Maestas, Isaiah Maestas, John Archuleta, Tim Gifford, Andy Maestas, and Danny Maestas. The family of Sixto Maestas II has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
