Rudy F. Herrera, 84, a resident of El Rito passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2019, surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. Rudy was preceded in death by his sons, Sam Chacon and Fernando Herrera; parents, Miguel and Perfecta Herrera; sisters, Leocadia and Idalia Herrera and Erminia Manzanares; brothers, Fermin Sr., Alex, Moises and Cruz Herrera. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Alice Herrera of Alcalde and Arlene Herrera of Oklahoma; his sons, Vicente Herrera of Shadow Mountain and Manuel Herrera (Frankie) of Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Kim and Miranda Montoya, Samantha and Jesse Herrera, Keauana Batson, and Robert and Michael Herrera; his furry grandson, Romi; his brother, Horacio Herrera (Mae); the mother of his children, Beatrice Gonzales (Andrew), and many other relatives and friends. Rudy worked in construction for the majority of his life, was a cement finisher and worked at the forest service up until he retired in the early 1980’s. He looked forward to get-togethers for holidays and birthdays with his children and grandchildren and loved to play cards and watch football, his Brady and the New England Patriots. He was so independent until the time of his illness and enjoyed cruising his Monte Carlo. Family was most important to him. Public visitation will begin on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at San Juan de Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito with burial to follow at the El Rito Placitas Cemetery.
