ROMAN ATENCIO, 62, a resident of Dixon, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Max Atencio; paternal grandparents, Roman and Augustina Atencio and maternal grandparents, Max and Demetria Roybal. Roman Albert Atencio was a proud soldier, father, and grandfather. He served in the Korea Demilitarized Zone from 1974 to 1975, branch of service Army Rank SP4, Squadron C Battery 1st Battalion 68th, Air Defense Artillery 1st Cavalry Division, date of entry January 29, 1974, date of release January 28, 1976. Roman also served in the Army National Guard SP4 effective date December 9, 1977, date of release January 28, 1980. Roman had a gentle heart and spirit. He will be missed dearly. Mr. Atencio is survived by his daughter, Elisabeth Atencio; granddaughter, Nonie Luna; mother, Emma Atencio all of Dixon; sisters, Loretta and Sarah Atencio both of Dixon and Augustina Abbott and husband Louis of Velarde; brother, Ronald Atencio and wife Christina of Washington State; nephews and nieces, Michael, Aaron, Alex Atencio, Kyle Abbott, Amelia Atencio and Shannon Abbott; great-nieces and nephews, Madeline Atencio, Logan Holmes, Zoe Holmes, Summer and Olivia Abbott and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon, with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon, with a burial to follow at the Father Kupper Cemetery in Embudo, with the following serving the family as pallbearers Ernest Valdez, Steven, Henry, Robert and Dwayne Atencio, Richard Montoya, Anthony Romero, honorary pallbearers Kyle Abbott, Michael, Aaron, and Alex Atencio, Carlos and Floyd Zamora.
