Nicole Romero

NICOLE RENEE ROMERO , 31, a resident of Chimayo was called home on Thursday, November 29, 2018.  Nicole was a McCurdy graduate class of “2005”. She earned her associate degree in criminal Justice and office administrations at Northern New Mexico College.  She was an employee at Los Alamos National Laboratory until she went on to pursue her dream in Law Enforcement. After her graduation from the Police Academy in February 2011, she began her career as a Police Officer for the Espanola Police Department then went on to continue her career as an Officer for the S.F. County Sheriff Department and the Rio Arriba County Sheriff Department. She also sustained a career as a Violent Crimes Detective. Nicole was preceded in death by her father, Larry Romero Sr.; sister, Crystal Romero; paternal grandfather, Tobias Romero; paternal great-grandparents, Fidel and Emilia Martinez, Jeremias and Celida Romero and uncles, Leland Romero Sr. and Felipe Romero. She is survived by her grandmother who raised her like a daughter, Betty Romero and her aunt, Monica Romero. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Romero Jr; sister, Crystal Katrina Romero; God-daughter, Destiny Valdez; step grandfather, Leo Ortega; her padriños, Louie and Mildred Aguilar; aunts, Angie Trujillo, Pammie Chacon (late Eddie), Anita Martinez (late Saloman), Cecilia Pacheco (Harold), Lydia Baca (Cornelio); uncle, Herman Romero; close cousins, Jasmine Valdez, Leland and Ezekiel Romero, Berlinda and Larry Jacquez, Leroy Duran and Audrey Sanchez; close friend who Nicole called sister, Desiree Hall; close friend, Oliver Gallegos; friends, Tracy Baca, Adrianne Ames, Cindy Garcia, Carolina Brandle, Amber Marez and other close relatives, friends and the rest of her law enforcement family. A devotional service will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Victory Faith Church in Española. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. also at Victory Faith Church with burial to follow at Nuestra Señora de Carmel in Chimayo. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Destiny Valdez, Jasmine Valdez, Desiree Hall, Crystal Katrina Romero, Larry Romero Jr.  and Leland Romero Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Ezekiel Romero, Tanya, David and Tristan Rodarte, Larry Jacquez, Berlinda Jacquez, Leroy Duran Jr., Audrey Sanchez, Matthew Duran, Jenessa Duran, Crystal Martinez and Genevieve, Harvey and Genesis Fernandez. The family of Nicole Renee Romero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
