MARY LOU STELLA SALAZAR, 80, a resident of La Mesilla passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 14, 2019. She was a devoted cosmetologist for over 50 years in the surrounding communities; and had such a passion for it and she continued at home, even after she retired. She loved being outdoors watering her flowers, watching and listening to the birds, and butterflies. She enjoyed visiting family and friends and helping others.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Diane (1998) and her son, Joseph Eloy (2006); parents, Bernardino and Maria Juanita Ortiz-Herrera of Nambe and Santa Fe; parent in-law, Joe I. Salazar Sr. and Ramoncita of Youngsville; brothers, Frank Herrera, Samuel Herrera, Antonio (Tony) Montoya, Alfonso Herrera, Tate Hall; brothers in-law, Miguel Trujillo, Napoleon Salazar, Leroy Salazar, Benny Serrano, Johnny Salazar, Roy Romero and Lee Padilla; sisters, Agnes Montoya, Genevieve Baca, Michelle C de Baca, Gloria Trujillo; sisters-in-law, Mary Serrano, Carolina Salazar; God-children, Patricia Montoya Ulibarri, Mary and Benny Serrano; and all nieces and nephews, Yvonne Romero, Ginger Jaramillo, Eric Salazar, and Aspen Salazar.
Mrs. Salazar is survived by her husband of 56 years, Eloy Salazar; children, Carol Anne Salazar of La Mesilla, James and wife Jennie of Ohkay Owingeh, Noelle and husband Brian Maestas of Hernandez; grandchildren, Crystal and husband Carlos Lopez, Kimberly and husband Eddie Lucero, Jamie Salazar, Isaiah Salazar and girlfriend Zaira, Brianna and husband Joseph Porter and Katelyn Maestas; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nathaniel, LeiLianna, Jeremias, and Azellathea Lopez, Trinity, Zachary and Kaleb Lucero, Jeshua and Taliah Porter; brothers and sisters, Edmund and wife Betty Herrera of Los Lunas, Ben and wife Frances Herrera of Nambe, Pete Baca of Albuquerque, Joanne, Viola, Agnes (Aggie) Herrera and Evelyn Hall all of Santa Fe, Olivia and husband Johnny Roybal of Jacona; brothers and sisters-in-law, Archie and Julia Jaramillo of Abiquiu, Betty Salazar (Padilla) of Tesuque, Teresa Romero of Espanola, Judy and Leroy, and Alex and Mable both of La Mesilla, Lucie and Loren Abercrombi of Youngsville, Annette and Kevin Joseph of Colorado, Junior and Isabel Salazar, Helen Salazar and Danny Salazar and companion Claudine Montoya all of Hernandez, Raymond and Therese of Bosque and Ron Raffensparger of Santa Fe; God-children, Ashley Williams, Doreen Trujillo, Gerald Mark Salazar, Julia and Archie Jaramillo, Josephine Martinez and Crystal Lopez. Mary Lou is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Public visitation will begin on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 12:00 noon also at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz with the Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated immediately after at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery in Española with the following serving as pallbearers, Stephen Trujillo, Danny Ray Salazar, Carl Herrera, Anthony Montoya, Leonard Baca, Fredrick Jones, Larry Ulibarri, Mark Roybal, & Peter Salazar. Honorary pallbearers named are; Isaiah Salazar, Carlos Lopez, Edward Lucero, Joseph Porter, Gerald Mark Salazar, & Archie Jaramillo. The family of Mary Lou Salazar has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
