LOURDES MODESTA BORREGO FRESQUEZ, 92, of Lower San Pedro road passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2021.  She was loved very much by her family as an endearing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Lourdes was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Tony J. Fresquez, her parents, Elena and Adrian Borrego of Santa Cruz, her parents-in-law, Melecio and Braulia Fresquez of San Pedro, her sisters, Juanita Moya, Annie Espinoza (Ross), Consuelo Lopez (Audelio), Isabel Valencia (Juan), and brothers, Ursulo Borrego (Susie), Joe Borrego (Ramona), Juan Borrego (Emma), Bobby Borrego (Rose), Gilbert Borrego (Becky), Leroy Borrego (Syria), Benny Borrego and Jerry Borrego.  She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Ben Fresquez, and sisters-in-law, Lugarda Lujan (Matias), Gilda Quintana (Benjamin), and Amanda Rolfes. Lourdes worked with the local JW & Owens department store in Espanola for many years before spending the rest of her career working for Espanola Public Schools as a Registrar and Administrative secretary for various departments in the Administrative building.  After her retirement, Lourdes enjoyed spending time shopping with her daughters and working on various arts and crafts projects that were always passed along to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Lourdes is survived by her niece who was raised as a sister, Ymelda Roybal (Joseph) and a nephew raised as a brother, Manuel Borrego (Maggie), her sisters-in-law, Erma Fresquez, Amalia Sisneros and Angelina Romero, her beloved son, Melecio Fresquez (Veronica), and beloved daughters, Bernice Life, Mary Ann Abeyta (Elefio), Mary Ellen Blea (Rick) and Eva Abeyta (Joe).  Grandchildren, Diana Life, Roy Life, Jason Life, Roland Life (Gabriella), Michael Life (Megan), (their father Roger A. Life) Andrew Trujillo, Joe P Abeyta III, Adrian Abeyta, Esteban Abeyta, Elena Abeyta, Anna Abeyta, Kristiana Salazar (Elias Salazar), and Rhiannon Abeyta.  Ten (10) great grandchildren, Joanna Romero, Kiana Romero, Jennifer Life, Lourdes Life, Roland Life, Matix Life, Ryan Life, Luke Life, Elizaria Trujillo and great grandson Life who is expected in May 2021. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who are descendants of her Borrego and Fresquez family. The family wants to thank Patricia Perez and Sandra for their special friendship. She enjoyed their company while quarantined at home during the pandemic.  Also, Katie (her cat) who slept beside her as her companion. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Only 5 people will be allowed inside the building at a time. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Andrew Trujillo, Jason Life, Roy Life, Roland Life, Michael Life, Joe Abeyta III, Adrian Abeyta, Esteban Abeyta, Rick Blea, Joe Abeyta, Elefio Abeyta, and Roger Life.  The family of Lourdes Modesta Borrego Fresquez has entrusted the care of their beloved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477 – www.devargasfuneral.com
