Joe C. Fresquez, 93, a resident of Upper San Pedro, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Joe was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Guadalupe Fresquez; parents, Santiago and Tonita Fresquez; siblings, Sam, Ramon and Maria; parents-in-law, Chana and Catalino Ortiz; brother and sister-in-laws, Horacio Ortiz, Laura Borrego, Eva Garcia and Gaby Lujan. Joe was a World War II Veteran serving in the South Pacific Pearl Harbor. He worked as a carpenter and in construction and took part in building the Santa Fe Opera as well as schools in Española, Los Alamos and Santa Fe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and dancing. Mr. Fresquez is survived by his wife Helen of 69 years; children, Horace, Marquita (Alex), Imelda (John), Velda (Jerry), Anita (David), and Veronica (Arnold); siblings, Pete (Lydia), Teresa, Francis (Pat), and Lourdes (Anthony). Public visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be John Ceballes, Brian Gray, Joseph Fresquez, Stephen Cordova, Nicolas Cordova, and Marcos Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Melissa Gonzales, Heather Nelson, Marisa Montoya, Kristen, Amaya and Diego Maestas, Frankie Gonzales, Emma Ceballes, Blayke Montoya, Ida Salazar, Paul and Barbara Fresquez and Pete and Lydia Fresquez.
