Flora Montoya

Flora Montoya, 103, a resident of San Pedro, passed away peacefully at her home on September 16, 2021. She was born on Sept. 5, 1918. She was preceded in death by her parents Flavio and Petronila Montoya; in-laws Juan and Amada Montoya; her loving husband Mike F. Montoya; her sisters; Elisa Rivera (Gavino), Ernestina Salazar (Adolfo), Bernie Truijillo (Onesimo), Pita Trujillo (Amado), Bertha Lucero (Tony), Ruby Sanders (John); her brothers Ben Montoya (Odelia), Armando Montoya (Roberta); her infant granddaughter Gina Marie Garcia, and her grandson Robert Montoya.

She is survived by her children; Mike R. Montoya (Helen), Robert Montoya (Cristina), Becky Garcia (Gene), Lawrence Montoya (Yvonne). Granddaughter Ashely Pacheco (Aaron); three grandsons Romolo Montoya (Rejel), Jonathan Garcia (Brittany), Christopher Montoya; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Montoya, Alexis Montoya, Anastasia Montoya, and Henry Pacheco; sisters-in-law Mary Montoya (Pat), and Margie Montoya (Tony), along with numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Flora was a woman of faith and a devout Catholic. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed. She worked as a teacher's aide for many years with the Espanola Schools. She was the most loving, kind, compassionate, and caring person that you could ever meet. She welcomed friends and family into her home and made sure they were fed and taken care of. She would spend hours baking, cooking, and preparing meals for family. Her tortillas, biscochitos, empanaditas, pastelitos, red chile, caldito, and homemade bread were just some of her family's favorites. She also liked to sew and crochet.

The family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to nurse Anna Dixon, healthcare tech Mary Helen Martinez, Julian Morales, Pastor Mike Haws, and everyone else at Amber Care Hospice who participated in the compassionate care of Flora.

A private service will take place followed by Burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Armando Lucero, Joe Almiral, Flavio Montoya, Tommy Montoya, Romolo Montoya, and Roger Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Garcia, Ashley Pacheco, and Christopher Montoya.
