Dora Maestas

DORA ESTELA MAESTAS, 95, a resident of Chili passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Dora was preceded in death by her husband Mariano E. Maestas; parents, Escolastico and Aurelia Maestas; siblings Cleofis Maestas, Guzman Maestas, Clovis Maestas, Rueben Maestas, Jacobo “Jake” Maestas, Adela Lopez and Elvira Munoz. Dora E. Maestas was born in Chili, NM to Escolastico and Aurelia Maestas on December 27, 1922. She married Mariano E. Maestas on February 21, 1949 in San Juan Pueblo. She and her late husband shared 68 years of Blissful marriage together. Dora gave birth to 9 wonderful children and devoted her life to raising them. Dora enjoyed spending time with her growing family. In addition to her 9 children, she gained 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She also took care of the neighborhood children and was affectionately known as “Grandma” by all those she took care of. She spent the final years of her life surrounded by her friends and family in her home in Chili. She is survived by her children, Larry Maestas and wife Janice, Elmer Maestas, Clovis Maestas and wife MaryVivian, Diana Lopez and husband Irvin, Alex Maestas and wife Carol, Melva Contreras and husband Daniel, Eva Maestas, Belinda CDeVaca and husband Pablo, Mary Martinez and husband Aaron, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as sisters-in-law Lourdes Maestas and Celodonia “Sally” Barela. The Maestas family would like to give thanks to Amber Care, El Centro family Healthcare Physician and staff and family, friends and neighbors who gave their support during this difficult time. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez.
